Fall In Love With Boredom
Hey friends,
When we want to work on goals, start a business idea, or create a new habit, people often talk about getting motivated.
People say things like, "it comes down to passions." or, "You have to really want it". As a result, many of us get depressed when we experience any slight dip in focus or motivation.
As a software developer, when I start a new project I feel very pumped and motivated at the beginning. As I continue to make progress, my motivation level drops. In many cases, I just abandon the project and tag it is as unfinished projects.
There is a different way to think about work ethics. Becoming successful is not about feeling motivated every time. It also comes down to who can handle doing repetitive tasks even if it's boring.
Mastery requires practice. But the more we practice something, the more boring and routine it becomes. Once the beginner gains have been made and we learn what to expect, out interest starts to fade.
Successful people don't have a large reserve of passion or motivation. They just fall in love with doing the boring stuff over and over again. They also feel the same lack of motivation like everyone. The difference is that they find a way to show up despite the feeling of boredom.
Now, I’ve learnt the only way to be successful is to constantly embrace the boring stuff and keep going even if I don’t feel motivated.
Have a great week!
Daniel
